Coffee was as much in favour during the eighteenth century as it has been in present times. Many of the antique sterling silver coffee pots collectible today are a simple pear shape, which was a popular design between about 1750 and 1790.
In order to function properly and to enable dregs to remain at the bottom of the receptacle, the pot was designed to be tall, and have either a lip at the top of the spout, or the spout itself set no lower than the middle of the vessel\'s body.
