The idea of a matching antique silver teaset is a comparitively modern one, and they were not really fashionable until the late eighteenth century. Before that time families still used the components of a teaset but were not bothered whether or not they matched.
When admiring any teaset, collectors should take particular interest in the teapot which will invariably have been used much more than the other parts of the service!
