0165. An Edwardian Antique Silver Wine Ewer.

of oval tapering form in Carolean style, raised on a spreading oval stepped foot, the whole encircled by an half height stepped band, the hinged lid with stepped border and scroll thumbplate.

The main body and foot are very lightly spot hammered, creating a delightful appearance and showing a beautiful patina.

There is a vine leaf decoration to the underside of the main body and around the fixed urn finial to the lid.

No monograms or crests.

Hallmarks are clearly displayed, with the makers mark, lions head erased, Britannia Standard mark and date letter to the main body just beneath the lid. The makers mark, lions head erased and date letter are on the inside of the lid.

This is a heavy and stunning piece of Britannia Standard antique silver which appears to have never been used. Museum condition! The maker, George Fox, is from the important Fox family of silversmiths
